Dan Deacon Releases Interactive Video for "Konono Ripoff Nº1"
Ok, this one is a bit hard to describe...so I am just gonna give you the whole description given me:
Dan Deacon's new music video for his RSD single 'Konono Ripoff Nº1' is a snap shot, time capsule and video yearbook of the Baltimore scene rolled into one. Like many of Deacon's art project-as-music-videos (see 'True Thrush' music video from Deacon's 2012 full-length America) the cast is made up of the Baltimore arts community.
The video is a series of animated GIF portraits of each cast member with objects they felt represented them or were special to them.
The interactive music video directed by Meredith Moore and produced by Alan Resnick lets you take part through the use of the free Dan Deacon smartphone app powered by Wham City Lights. Initially conceived of to be used at his live shows as featured in the music video for America's "Guilford Ave Bridge", the app was subsequently used on his network television debut performance on Jimmy Kimmel last year to bring the home viewing audience into the performance.
The smartphone app syncs the phone to the music video and results in two simultaneous playing videos. The video on the smartphone displays the rotating objects of the cast member in the music video. The speed of the object's rotation is determined by the user holding the smartphone.
The song was Deacon's record store day release on Domino Records!

7 Silly Questions w/ The Knits
I ran across Australian garage heroes The Knits completely by accident. It was a slow music day and I was scouring other blogs looking for stuff to steal. Honestly, I am so fucking happy I did. I haven't heard such fun, amazing garage rock in a long, long time. If The Knits were in the US, I feel they would be destroying every stage they played on, reminding us how it's supposed to be done. Thanks to the wonder of the interwebs, I was able to metaphorically sit down with Brendan Walsh and got him to answer our highly ridiculous questionnaire.
What's the most embarrassing band you loved as a kid?
The Beaches Soundtrack by Bette Midler was a record
that got many a spin when I was a little squid. Although, I'll still
argue that her version of "Under the Boardwalk" crushes Rolling Stone's
version into a pulp. Also, the proto-industrial track "Oh, Industry!"
still scare me to my core.
What is the first record you bought?
Violent
Femmes self-titled, which I still love today. There are not enough
xylophone solos in music these days. "Gone Daddy Gone" has two.
Unicorns vs. Narwhals? Who would win in a fight?
Narwhals, reality beats imaginary. Also, their head boners look more dangerous than that of the unicorn.
What is the funniest thing that has happened to you on the road?
Reading Motely Crue's book, The Dirt, to
each other in the back of the car was funny and informative. It is
really quite an incredible story of the rise and fall of big haired
girly-men. Also it has Pamela Anderson.
Who has the worst van etiquette?
Richie's butt.
Who is in heavy rotation on your iPod?
Hunx and his Punx are always getting a pounding on the ol' ipod. Al, from one of my other bands, Palms, just put me on to The Adolencents.
Great band that play short, pointlessly angry punk songs. Fantastic!
Also, Personal and the Pizzas have been getting a pounding of late.
Perfect mix of humour and tough rock 'n' roll.
What is the worst fight over nothing that you got into with each other after being road weary and exhausted?
Constant
arguments over food stops are exhausting, yet necessary. We need to find
the most disgusting and satisfying road food possible.
Low - Just Make It Stop Video!
The Invisible Way is out now on Sub Pop. Stereogum got the video premiere. Those bastards.

Double Dagger - Heretic's Hymn
Stole this blurb from Pitchfork:

7 Silly Questions w/ Boxed Wine!
I am not even quite sure how to start talking about New Jersey band Boxed Wine. The best way I can describe their music is infectious, upbeat indie pop created by impossibly charming dorks. And I mean that as a total compliment. The first time I heard their track "Waste Your Time" I was smitten. I think I have listened and sung along to it at least a hundred times.
On May 21st, Boxed Wine is releasing their debut full length Cheap, Fun. We posted about their preview EP of the same name back in January. With all the hoopla and craziness surrounding a new album, we are pleased the guys had time to sit down with us and answer some highly irregular questions.
What's the most embarrassing band you loved as a kid?
Chris: Probably Vengaboys, but it was mixed in with a lot of 90s techno, especially Jock Jams comps…
Ralph: Van Halen, even the Sammy Hagar era. Mike: Milli Vanilli (and yes, I was devastated when the truth came out)
Steve: Chumbawamba, Give me a break I was 7!
What is the first record you bought?
Chris: Elvis' #1 Hits Ralph: Nirvana's Nevermind
Mike: Milli Vanilli's Girl You Know It's True
Steve: Korn's Follow the Leader
Unicorns vs. Narwhals? Who would win in a fight?
Chris: It really depends on the setting… Narwhal in water, Unicorn on land.
Ralph: Unicorns because they don't exist and you can't kill something that doesn't exist. Other example: Santa.
Mike: Narwhal in reality, but if the unicorn had its special powers, it'd totally dominate.
Steve: The almighty Unicorn. Duh.
What is the funniest thing that has happened to you at a show?
Chris: Nothing. I thought about this for twenty minutes, and can honestly say that nothing funny has happened to me at any of our shows. I feel lame now.
Ralph: I was once approached by a girl with pink hair about halfway through our set. She grabbed me and asked me to dance with her during the next song. I told her I couldn't play while dancing so she left and I never saw her again.
Mike: I once invited two girls who were competing for my affections to the same show. Neither of them came, so I guess that's funny. Or sad. Yeah, definitely sad but funny. Steve: A drumstick went flying out of my hand, hit my drum, then came flying right back, nailing me in the head. *cue rimshot*
If you could relive your prom, what song would you most like to slow dance to?
Chris: "Fake Empire" - The National or "Montreal" - Kaki King or "Red Moon" - the Walkmen.
Ralph: "New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down" - LCD Soundsystem
Mike: A slowed down version of "Girl You Know It's True" - Milli Vanilli
Steve: "My Girl" - The Temptations (Gotta go with a classic!)
Who is in heavy rotation on your iPod?
Chris: Theme Park, the Strokes, Locksley, Free Energy, the Plastics, Generationals, the Rapture, and the Virgins at the moment.
Ralph: Haim, LCD Soundsystem, and Katy Perry
Mike: Milli Vanilli, Gaslight Anthem, and Bruce Springsteen
Steve: Deftones
Who smells the worst after a show?
Chris: Mike
Ralph: Mike and Chris
Mike: Chris
Steve: The fans! Haha kidding, we don't have any fans.
